A unique coastal rowing trip on the wild west coast of Vancouver Island. Much of our daily rowing takes place in an urban or semi-urban setting, not far from the dock and where we parked our bicycle or car. This rowing adventure takes us into the wilderness, albeit with the comfort of a roof over our heads at night. It takes some effort to get here, but you will be richly rewarded. After a warm-up row in Ucluelet we head to our water-access only lodge. From here we will explore the waters of Barclay Sound. Bring binoculars for wildlife viewing! This trip is presently sold out.
A 6 day special that does not include the first row in Ucluelet, but allows you to explore the wild west coast of Vancouver Island. Canada is a strikingly beautiful and vast country. Québec, its largest province, is especially endowed with stunning landscapes and vibrant, distinctive cultures. Proudly francophone, the province also has an English component to its history and lifestyle. Montreal and the Eastern Townships, or Montréal et les Cantons de l’est depending on your language, are the best places to explore these two key facets of Québec. Welcoming, authentic and fascinating, Montreal is truly one of the world’s great cities. By contrast, the Eastern Townships is predominately rural and wild, with rolling hills sheltering a mix of farms and forests. Lakes and rivers are everywhere. You will quickly understand why this is one of the favourite weekend and holiday playgrounds for Montrealers. Just right for our holiday too. La Belle Province is perfect for a Quebec rowing tour.
Our Vancouver Island Hybrid Explorer is based in the greater Victoria area, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Sophisticated, a little wild, fascinating and friendly – Victoria is a vibrant city on the edge of nature. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, abundant wildlife such as orca whales, tall trees and rocky islands, Sidney and Victoria are adventure playgrounds by the ocean. Decide where you want to stay, plan your own meals, and use your car for transportation. Of course we have lots of recommendations and suggestions. The Saanich Peninsula, and especially the city of Victoria, boasts fabulous coffee and superb West Coast cuisine – think salmon, locally grown fruit and vegetables, cheeses from Saltspring Island and award-winning BC wines. Victoria is acclaimed as BC’s craft beer capital. Dozens of regional and provincial parks in the area offer quiet and a touch of wilderness. Maybe you will see an orca whale frolicking in the waters or spot a deer wandering amongst the amazingly tall cedars and spruces. Spend time exploring the nearby Butchart Gardens or learn about totem poles and Indigenous history and culture at the Royal BC Museum.
We will be rowing stunning coastlines, exploring Split and Sibinek plus beautiful Hvar Island. In an interview, the Sinkovic brothers were described as “large, likeable, and really good at rowing.” They also seem to be very happy and adventurous. Perhaps those same attributes could be applied to a description of the country and what a Croatia rowing trip will be like. Details to come soon.
An iconic destination to perhaps the most famous rowing river in the world. Follow in the puddles of Three Men in a Boat and the Wind in the Willows. From all of the possibilities, Rowing The World has selected a week long row that takes in the highlights of not only Thames rowing but also rowing in England. We stay in cities as famous as the river: Oxford, Henley-on-Thames and Windsor. Picture green water meadows, quaint villages, arched bridges, stunning castles and rowing boathouses – more than 200 clubs line the length of the river. On this trip we will immerse ourselves in the sport of rowing, its history and lore as we experience some of the best sculling in the world. This trip is presently sold out.
Inspired by the classic book of the same name by Freda White, this new tour explores the Dordogne, Lot and Tarn Rivers in south-west France. Timed to follow the World Rowing Masters Regatta in Libourne, a short distance from our start in Bergerac, this is a perfect rower’s reward whether you were racing or not. We have drawn upon some of the best elements from previous trips to the Lot and Dordogne and added a new river to expand our exploration of a region famous for its food, wine and landscape. From bases in charming Bergerac, La Roque Gageac, Cahors and Albi, we will row an ancient landscape of limestone cliffs, perched villages, farms and vineyards. In a country famous for its food and wine, the Southwest is particularly renowned. The hearty but refined food of duck confit or magret de canard, patés, walnut pastries and perhaps a little foie gras is perfect for our fall row. Cahors wine is deep red, with an intensity of flavour similar to Malbec, while the Dordogne wines such as Pecharment are lighter reds. We could sample sweet Monbazillac or pétillant Gaillac for whites and Côtes du Duras for a rosé. September is the perfect time for this row and cuisine. Morning mists will curl up from the water as the air temperatures begin to rise. In the evenings it is cool and crisp, and we will be ready to relax and enjoy the rewards of good company and rowing travel.
Grab this chance to explore a stunning river described as the most romantic river in Europe. The river winds and loops through a gorgeous landscape of hills clad green with forests and vineyards. Delightfully pretty towns dot the banks and castles reach for the sky. The romance of the Mosel comes from the intimate feel of the narrow valley, the small towns with crooked streets and colourful half-timbered houses, and of course the quality of the hospitality – quality, character accommodations and hearty, superb food. A rowing trip here feeds your body, spirit and soul. We only run this trip occasionally.
Row in a land of myths and legends. Epirus and the Ionian Sea have attained a legendary reputation as a tourism destination, in part for its gorgeous landscapes and seascapes. Comparisons have been made to Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Along a shoreline dented with coves, adorned with quiet beaches and sprinkled with islands, caves carved into white cliffs rise straight up from turquoise water. Picturesque towns nestle between water and low hills, green with pine, olive and fruit trees. There is history and archeological sites plus wonderful accommodation and of course fabulous Greek food, eaten family style with shareable platters arriving at big tables under the stars. Did we mention the spectacular coastal rowing on generally calm waters.
An invitation-only test tour will be held as we explore different destinations. Please let us know if you would like to be considered.
Northern Italian lakes have drawn travellers for centuries. While every northern Italian lake is enduringly charming and beautiful, each has a slightly different personality. Bellagio on Lago di Como is perfectly situated on a stunning peninsula at the intersection of the Como and Lecco branches of the lake. The lake feels narrow and intimate. It is long and narrow, offering views of snow-capped Alps in some directions, and in other directions there are tantalizing curves that entice you to row just a little bit further. Lago di Garda is a bigger lake, splashed by sunlight and with a mild climate. We will explore the southern basin. The Alps are in view, even as the lake widens into a broad plane of vineyards, olive groves and lemon orchards, with towns dotting rounded hills. Join us and let this region surprise you with its charm, warmth and variety.
We love Italy and this is an absolute favourite destination. The lake, which also reaches into Switzerland, is stunning. We will row past opulent hotels in Stresa, the wealthy waterfront of Ascona, tiny villages perched high on the hills above, plus a diversity of islands, one sporting a castle, others with grand gardens and villas, another simply covered in willow trees. There is always something interesting and beautiful to look at as you row. While the focus is on rowing, we are refreshing this trip with some new twists. Like yoga twists. Details to come.

A legendary rowing event and a must-do at least once. Imagine Venice without motor boats for a morning. Thousands of rowed or paddled watercraft take to the waters for a 30 km “race”, which begins with a cannon shot from St. Mark’s Square. The route takes rowers through the lagoon to Burano, down to Murano and back along the famous canals to St. Marks to receive a participation medal. Rowers come from around the world, with quads, eights, various Venetian style rowing boats, plus kayaks, canoes, SUPs and anything else that moves forward with oars or paddles. Join us for a wonderful weekend in Venice. Full package that makes planning and participation easy.
Who wouldn’t want to row in the Caribbean during a northern winter? Add French flair, spectacular scenery, and you have the makings of a perfect rowing getaway. Imagine rowing on water that is impossibly blue not to mention warm, past lush tropical forests, and landing on white sand beaches a short walk to a refreshing coconut drink or maybe a rum punch. Our tour takes us to some of the famous communities, beaches and sights of the island. But we will also explore a bit more off the beaten path, to experience some of the loveliest but lesser known parts of this gorgeous island. A unique rowing vacation.
Straddling Europe and Asia, modern Turkey is built on a complex history that continues today. Join us to explore beautiful scenery, enjoy fabulous rowing, indulge in wonderful food and accommodation and also gain insight into the past and present of this intriguing country. Blending the best of east and west, experience three different aspects of Turkey on this rowing trip. We begin and end in Istanbul, one of the world’s most fascinating cities. Next stop is Bodrum, famous for its history and as one of Turkey’s most chic resort towns. The third part of our Turkey rowing tour places us on a more remote peninsula of the south Aegean coastline, where villages retain their fishing and sponge-diving character. Row, learn and relax in a fascinating and complex destination.
